IAC Commissions: Mick Moloney

In March of 2020, musician and ethnomusicologist Mick Moloney traveled to Thailand with a vision to return stateside in time for the summer festivals. But when he found himself in indefinite lockdown abroad, he had to draw new connections to his art and community. Here, for our Grásta series, is the story of Mick's life in Bangkok: how he helped bring music to the local children's charity, rallied Irish artists in support of the BLM movement, and continued to share his work with audiences the world over.

Overview

Grásta: Grace in Uncertainty

Mick Moloney tells the story of his unexpected lockdown in Bangkok, where, despite continued physical separation from his professional instruments and the scores of international performers with whom he collaborates—and being hit by a pickup truck—he's been able to find new ways to work as a musician and teacher, and rally his artistic community around him.

Premiered July 22, 2021.
