Overview

Patrick Mangan, Thursdays, 6pm-7pm

8 Weekly sessions beginning Tuesday, April 18th, 2019

This course is somewhat akin to a "book club" for lovers of Irish fiddle music. We will explore eight albums that have each left a distinct mark on the traditional music landscape. Each week at home, we will listen to a landmark album by a different fiddler, spanning decades and regional styles. Links to stream the designated albums will be provided. At the beginning of each class we will have an open discussion about our reactions to the music, listen to some brief excerpts, and chat about what makes each recording so unique. We will then focus on learning one tune from each album. Recordings and sheet music will be provided for at-home practice. This is a unique opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation for some of the tradition's finest recordings.

This class requires an instrument. For information about instrument rentals and purchases, click here
