Introduction to Tune Arranging Master Class

Growing up in Milwaukee, Anne Johnson was surrounded by opportunities to hear and play Irish music. She performed solo singing shows at six consecutive Milwaukee Irish Fests, in addition to appearing at the Pike Lake Folk Festival, various Irish pubs in Milwaukee and Madison, and on Wisconsin Public Radio. In her teens, she began listening voraciously to historical recordings of Irish trad artists. Among those singers most influential to her are Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Paddy Tunney, and Dolores Keane, although she also loves the more urban-folk style arrangements by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. 

Since moving to New York, Anne has earned a Master's in music history and theory at Queens College. She has worked primarily as a music teacher at universities including Mannes College of Music, Hunter College, and Hofstra University. She is also a music journalist, contributing regularly to PS Audio’s Copper Magazine and Classical Voice North America. She can be heard singing at area sessions and at the Rough and Ready performance series held monthly at Alchemical Theatre Studios in Manhattan.
