Overview

In this first edition of Intercultural Connections, folklorist and ethnomusicologist Dr. Mick Moloney explores Irish vocal styles in a global context, charting their evolution from the time when the Celts lived in the foothills of the Himalayas through their migration to the scenic outposts of coastal northwest Europe. The lecture will spotlight the Irish folk ballad revitalized by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and the traditional sean-nós form made popular by singers like Iarla Ó Lionáird and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.
