Tony DeMarco, Wednesdays, 6pm—7pm

8 weekly sessions beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Native New York fiddler Tony Demarco will lead an exploration of the many great fiddle players from Ireland and New York City that shaped our local New York Irish fiddle style and what made it legendary in Irish music globally. Students will listen to and discuss the fiddle music of Sligo greats, Michael Coleman, James Morrison, Andy McGann, Paddy Reynolds, Larry Redican, and others who heavily influenced the NY style. Special attention will be paid to the different ways players used ornamentation and phrasing in their tunes. We will also learn a wide variety of tunes and touch upon how to phrase slow airs and play for different dance styles from set dances to sean nós

This class requires an instrument. For information about instrument rentals and purchases, click here.
