Explore the Irish language with a full day of activities for Irish enthusiasts of all levels! Celebrating the oral histories from New York to the Gaeltacht, this day-long immersion in the language will connect you to other language enthusiasts through education, literature, music, film, and storytelling.

The Endangered Language Alliance & WikiTongues:
Why Language Preservation is Important Now More than Ever
Hear from experts on language preservation in New York City and abroad. WikiTongues is building the first public archive of every language in the world and the Endangered Language Alliance (ELA) documents and supports endangered languages.

Workshop Break-Out Session 1

Workshop 1: Darach Ó Catháin: Language and Voice
Instructor: Colin Harte
All levels welcome
Learn about famous sean nos singer Darach Ó Catháin and the relationship between the Irish language and his singing style. Participants will be taught old Irish lyrics, translation, and phonetic pronunciation.
Workshop 2: Explore the Irish National Folklore Collection
Instructor: Frances Mulraney
All levels welcome
Learn the best Irish sayings and phrases from the University College Dublin’s Irish National Folklore Collection.
Workshop 3: Irish Radio and TV Production
Instructor: Siobhan Kavanagh
Recommended for intermediate to advanced speakers
Watch and listen to clips from some of the best Irish language programming over the years.
Workshop 4: Creative Writing as Gaeilge
Instructor: Paul Ferris
Recommended for advanced intermediate and experienced learners/speakers
Using both Irish language and creative skills, students will work together in small groups in a relaxed atmosphere to craft a short story, dialog, or newspaper article. |
