Overview

Kieran McCarthy-Fell, Wednesdays, 6pm—7pm

8 weekly sessions beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2019

The whistle has been played in Ireland for at least 1,000 years. It is small, inexpensive, and easy to bring along to any gathering. In this introduction to the whistle, you will start with how to produce a good sound, and will learn the different notes by playing simple songs. Once you have mastered the basics, we will work on some traditional tunes, including marches, waltzes, polkas, and jigs. Bring a key of D whistle, or purchase one in class for $15.

This class requires an instrument. Tin whistles are available for purchase in class during the first class only. After that, they are available for purchase at the Irish Arts Center offices located at 553 West 51st Street between 10am and 6pm M-F.
