Overview

(This is part two of a three-part series, the first of which was titled “The Art of Practice” and offered with IAC in March 2022)

Level: Open to all levels of players and avid listeners of Irish music, too!

Do you hear what I hear? We all hear music in different ways, taking in sound through texture, tone, timbre and rhythm. Certainly for someone learning music by ear, as we do in Irish music, the process of deepening our listening is a vital part of understanding and playing this music. This presentation is about how to hear Irish music, how to develop your ear in order to deepen your experience, and it will offer some tips on how to use what you hear in your practice and in the development of your own style. This online workshop will include both a presentation and Q&A. This class will focus on traditional Irish music and therefore be most appealing to those players and avid listeners, but the concepts presented here will be useful for musicians and avid listeners of other styles of music as well. Please come listen with us!

Supplies Needed: Attendees should have a good pair of headphones. We will be listening in detail!
