Overview
New session added!
Bataireacht is a martial art from Ireland dating back more than 500 years in which practitioners use walking sticks for community defense. The practice has a rich history on the island and in the diaspora as part of Irish people's relationship to the land and resistance to colonization, and surviving styles have gained international interest in recent years, with a very beginner-friendly learning curve.
This workshop provides a playful environment in which you'll learn a bit of history and a whole lot of technique. You’ll focus on the Doyle family style, a unique two-handed form of bataireacht, digging into foundational offensive and defensive techniques in solo, paired, and group exercises.
No martial arts experience or athletic background needed. Sticks provided; masks required.
This workshop will be held in person in the Studio Classroom.
Session 1 // 10am—1pm
Session 2 // 2pm—5pm
