Overview

“A pure theatrical thrill ride”—THE GUARDIAN

“[A] brilliant endeavour. Riveting to watch.”—IRISH TIMES

“Iconoclastic and joyful ... Returns us to the essence of theatre”—LE MONDE

During the turmoil of the Russian Revolution in 1917, Maria Chekhov placed many of her late brother Anton’s manuscripts in a safety deposit box. In 1921, Soviet scholars opened the box and discovered a play. The title page was missing. The play they found has too many characters, too many themes, too much action. Unstageable. Like life.

The Obie award-winning Irish contemporary theatre company Dead Centre has deconstructed Chekhov's earliest text into an explosive and stirring work—a “wildly playful piece about the elusiveness of meaning” (The Guardian)—that has dazzled audiences around the world. Don’t miss one of Ireland’s most innovative theatre companies in their long awaited return to New York City, following previous runs at BAM and Abrons Arts Center.
