Overview

Following its 2022 debut at Belfast's Ulster Museum and a 20-location UK and European tour, William Keohane’s Boxing Day, a series of 52 poems exploring transition, confinement and time, comes to IAC as a satellite event to our 16th annual PoetryFest. The Boxing Day performance is a year of a life—condensed into an hour of time, a poem for each week—in which Keohane interrogates the relationship between the poet and audience and offers a fragmentary glimpse into the experience of gender transition. The performance will be followed by a brief discussion and Q&A with the artist.

“Does it matter who listens? If they hear at all? I could speak the words to a skull in the woods. They could nest in the idle bone where a mind should be. They could sleep in a small thing that once was alive.”
