Hamnet
A Dead Centre production
Written and directed by Ben Kidd and Bush Moukarzel
Shakespeare had a son named Hamnet. He was 11 when he died. A tragedy that passed as barely a footnote in history. This is our chance to hear from him.
Irish theater company Dead Centre grapples with the shadows that surround a spotlight. This stunning play puts a boy on center stage—an unassuming embodiment of tragedy, mortality, legacy, and longing—whose destiny is not to be.
Text by Bush Moukarzel, Ben Kidd and William Shakespeare
Dramaturgy by Michael West
Set design by Andrew Clancy
Costume design by Grace O’Hara
Lighting design by Stephen Dodd
Sound design by Kevin Gleeson
Video design by José Miguel Jiménez
Choreography by Liv O’Donoghue

“A remarkable piece about an 11-year old boy, who, in searching for his father, also tries to understand family relationships, childhood and parenthood.”—Financial Times
