Enjoy an Irish connection to New York City ’s favorite holiday!

Immerse your family in the dream-like world of the mythical Irish Banshee, notorious for their mysterious, echoing howls and spooky singing. Emerging children musicians, sound artists, and noise enthusiasts will explore rhythm, sound, and music in creative, enjoyable, and educational ways. The day is filled with hands-on workshops for kids and parents alike—from an interactive sound installation, to an instrument making workshop, to Banshee face painting lessons and dress up, to a children’s concert created in collaboration with Stomp and Shout, and more. The Banshee has haunted Ireland’s townlands and bohereens for thousands of years. On October 31st she will be visiting IAC for our annual Halloween event. To make her welcome we need your help! If you are available between 9 am and 5 pm on October 31st to help out please contact our Director of Children’s Programming, Jen Browne at jen@irishartscenter.org.


Collin Couvillion (Musician) is a Brooklyn based performing songwriter and composer who has also been teaching and performing children's music for the past 10 years. He has provided the score for two feature films and can be currently be seen performing as the musician in the long running off-Broadway showFuerza Bruta.

Carrie Erving (Musician) is a performing singer, composer and a Lincoln Center teaching artist. Originally from Massachusetts, she developed her love of traditional American folk songs while studying voice at Ithaca College, and traveled to Ireland to earn a Master’s degree in Irish Traditional Song from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. Her eclectic background in opera, rock, and folk music influences both her work with students and her current compositions. She also loves writing and producing music for various projects and enjoys playing guitar and synthesizers. Her love of travel and music has led her to live in Ireland, Germany, New Mexico and New York. She currently lives in Brooklyn and performs with her band Ponyhof, and has worked with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Will Butler (Arcade Fire).

CAITLIN MCNEILL (Dancer) from Brooklyn, NY, received her initial training from the Niall O'Leary School of Irish Dance and achieved championship level status.  Caitlin has been a guest dancer with the Trinity Irish Dance Company as well as on Mick Moloney’s Greenfields of America Tour.  She has also toured with the Prodigals, the McLean Avenue Band, and the Andy Cooney Band.  Caitlin has recently appeared on Fox and Friends, the Today Show, the CBS morning show, and at Carnegie Hall.  Caitlin dances with the Niall O'Leary Irish Dance Troupe, Emerald Fire Dance, and Darrah Carr Dance. 

DARRAH CARR DANCE (Dance Consultation) is a Bessie-Award nominated company that specializes in MoDERIN - a unique blend of traditional Irish step and contemporary modern dance. Recent performance highlights include: a return appearance on NBC’s “The Today Show,” a guest performance with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, a benefit performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Victory Dance at the New Victory Theater, Celebrate Brooklyn, Inside/Out at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, and the company's annual NYC season at the Irish Arts Center.

Alice Emily Baird (Sound Artist) is a sound and media artist and researcher from Brighton, England. She completed her BA in Music Technology (Sound for Media) at London Metropolitan University (CASS School of Art and Architecture) in 2013 and is currently pursuing her MFA in Sound Arts at Columbia University. Her work has been exhibited internationally in the UK, US, and Japan.  Working with a variety of interactive technologies in the medium of sound and video, Baird uses software and coding to present voice/field/atmospheric recordings, video art, and a variety of physical materials to create installations which analyze and create independent experiences.
