$145 general / $115 member

Four 2-hour sessions every other week,  Tuesdays, 6pm – 8pm (April 11th, April 25th, May 9th, and May 23rd) 2017

This class will focus on developing a wide range of approaches to basic ornaments such as cuts, rolls, and crans to accentuate different phrases in traditional Irish dance music. We will begin by learning a simple tune without ornaments, and then gradually explore a variety of techniques for ornamenting the tune including on and off the knee playing, variations, pops, staccato triplets, etc. We'll also spend some time listening to recordings of various pipers as a source of ideas for variations, ornaments, and playing styles.

A wide range of playing levels will be accommodated but students should at least have a basic level of skill and be able to comfortably play a simple tune at a slow to moderate pace.
